Day 13: Rapping Herbie’s magic

Today, Herbie and I went to CERES, an amazing urban farm fifteen minutes from Melbourne. http://www.ceres.org.au/home.html

Herbie shared headline act status with The Ages, a fabulous five-piece jazz band. And, The Ages know how to hip hop too – along with their rocking beats, Herbie’s ‘Yo, Grow’ rap was debuted, with me on the mic!

Throughout the ‘Herbert Peabody’ series, Herbie busts out the occasional rhyme in the veggie patch to help his seedlings grow. For me, it was important that Herbis is a fun-loving character, just like the children the series is written for. And I think poetry is something that children can relate too, especially when the rhymes are put to a tune and a beat.

Plans are in place to record Herbie’s rhymes, so stay tuned for some musical additions to the Herbie stable.

Until tomorrow,

Bianca
