Artichokes are a beautiful vegetable, and they taste as good as they look!
The plant is a magnificent addition to any garden, growing up to 1.2m tall with a span of around 1m. The plant is a perennial, which means it will grow every year providing it is fed, because artichokes use a lot of energy to grow.
While some of us are a little tentative to cook artichokes, they are surprisingly easy to prepare.
Simply boil the artichoke for around 20 minutes, or until a leaf can be easily pulled away. Sprinkle on some vinegar and eat the soft parts of the leaves and the heart. The stem can be eaten too!
