The great American comic, W.C. Fields, once said, “Never work with children or animals.” However, if he had been at the Stories Up High children’s writers festival this weekend at Cloudehill in Olinda, he may have thought otherwise.
Reading chapter one of Herbert Peabody and His Extraordinary Vegetable Patch, followed by painting pots and planting seeds, all with the help of resident canine, Tilly, brought joy to the children, their parents and me. The audience was enthused to talk about favourite vegetables, and the keenness to share stories of growing food was infectious.
As the children took home their signed Herbie books and potted seeds to grow their own herbs, Herbie’s magic of growing food was there to see. And I am one ecstatic author!
Until tomorrow,
Bianca
